DJI Matrice 4 Series

Brings Intelligence to Aerial Operations

DJI Enterprise recently introduced new flagships of industrial drones: the DJI Matrice 4 series.
The new drones, Matrice 4 Thermal and Matrice 4 Enterprise, are equipped with artificial intelligence and a laser rangefinder for precise real-time surveying and distance measurements.

The Matrice 4 series is equipped with sensors that enable accurate measurements and detailed images both during the day and at night. A 70mm tele-sensor, capable of clearly detecting small details like screws, bolts, and cracks from a distance of 10 meters, enhances its capabilities. For inspections from a longer distance, there is a 168mm tele-sensor that can view complex details up to 250 meters away depending on the size. For general use, there is a 24mm wide-angle sensor.

A new feature, previously known from the larger drones Matrice 30 and Matrice 350, is the laser rangefinder with a measuring range of up to 1800 meters.

Multiple Intelligent Sensors for Detailed Night or Day Visuals and Precision Mapping

The DJI Matrice 4 Series features a medium tele camera and a tele camera. With the optical 70mm medium telephoto lens (1/1.3 CMOS, 48MP, f/2.8), screws and cracks can be identified in medium-range inspections for power lines and bridges from a distance of 10 meters. For longer-range inspections, the 168mm telephoto lens (1/1.5 CMOS, 48 MP, f/2.8) can capture incredible details from up to 250 meters away. Additionally, the laser range finder can measure distances from 1,800 meters away.

The DJI Matrice 4T additionally includes a thermal sensor that supports high-resolution mode up to 1280×1024 pixels, useful for various inspection and rescue operations.

The DJI Matrice 4E focuses on rapid and efficient mapping and surveying. Its 24mm wide-angle sensor is equipped with a mechanical shutter that enables fast 0.5- second interval shooting, an improvement from the previous Mavic 3 Enterprise model’s 0.7-second minimum. The Smart 3D Capture feature allows operators to directly create raw models and mapping paths on the drone controller, facilitating detailed measurements and workflows for irregular buildings.

Improved visibility in complex environments
The Matrice 4 series can operate in low-light conditions without hindrance. With larger sensor apertures and an enhanced night mode, visuals remain clear and understandable even in almost complete darkness. Furthermore, the improved obstacle avoidance sensors allow for intelligent obstacle detection, avoidance, and safe return home, even in urban environments. The drones also have an electronic haze removal feature to enhance image clarity in foggy or high humidity conditions.

Optimized for public safety
The Matrice 4 series introduces several new features specifically designed for search and rescue missions. Artificial intelligence helps to more easily detect people, vehicles, and boats in challenging terrain. A cruise control feature allows the drone to maintain a steady speed, enabling pilots to focus on more critical tasks. In emergencies, drones can take off within 15 seconds and update their return-to-home
points using visual positioning, even without GNSS signals. The DJI Pilot 2 app allows operators to map already covered areas during a search, ensuring that no section is overlooked. In addition to manufacturer-provided features, the Matrice 4 series also offers the possibility for third-party software or hardware developers to create custom applications or accessories.

Versatile accessories
The Matrice 4 series introduces advanced accessories to enhance adaptability.
Unlike its predecessor, the Mavic 3 Enterprise series, which lacked a manufacturer- provided light and had to use third-party equipment (such as the CZI GL10), the Matrice 4 series has developed its own DJI AL1 light, providing effective lighting up to 100 meters with options for constant light or strobe mode. Additionally, the AS1 speaker can project sound up to 300 meters at approximately 114 decibels, making it effective for public announcements or crowd control. The RTK module, previously an additional accessory, is now built into the Matrice 4 drones.

Further elevating operations, the D-RTK 3 Multifunctional Station supports drones with centimeter-level positioning accuracy, extending image transmission through signal relays at elevated altitudes and facilitating high-precision data collection in network-free areas. Additionally, it can also be used to mark ground control points.

Smarter and Safer Flights for Worry-Free Operations

DJI’s self-developed RTK module comes standard in the Matrice 4 Series, providing comprehensive visibility for enhanced safety. The standard configuration includes a 5-directional vision assist view along with a downward vision. Pilots can take off within 15 seconds during emergencies and update return-to-home points through visual positioning even without GNSS signals. If connected with the Internet, the remote controller can download terrain obstacle details and detailed offline maps. This enables automatic path planning for obstacle avoidance helping pilots navigate at night or through mountainous areas.

Industry-Leading Privacy Controls

DJI places the highest priority on data privacy – and puts customers in control of their data. Users must opt-in to share photos and videos with DJI, and US-based users no longer have the option to sync their flight logs with DJI servers. For heightened data security needs or those flying sensitive missions, Local Data Mode can be activated to sever the DJI Pilot 2 flight control app’s connection with the Internet. This prevents unintentional syncing of photos, videos or flight logs with external servers. Any personal data shared for account registration is further secured with AES-256 encryption. Operators can easily delete any data they have shared through their DJI account or by contacting DJI Support. Since 2017, we have regularly submitted our products for third-party security audits and certification, including Booz Allen Hamilton, FTI Consulting, and Kivu Consulting.
