DJI Mic Mini

Small and lightweight for easy and discreet use

DJI Mic Mini Review: A Cheap, High-Quality Wireless Microphone
The DJI Mic Mini is probably one of the most affordable and versatile high-quality wireless microphone systems we’ve come across. When RØDE introduced its Wireless Go microphone system in 2019, it revolutionized the world of wireless audio recording. Content creators no longer had to settle for poor Bluetooth audio quality or buy a license to use traditional, expensive UHF/VHF systems.
RØDE later released an improved version of its system, while DJI was working on its own alternative. The first DJI Mic quickly gained a strong foothold in the market, and DJI improved it even further with the Mic 2. The latter offered
advantages, especially when used with DJI cameras, as the Mic 2 transmitter could connect without requiring a separate receiver. Now, DJI has introduced the DJI Mic Mini, which costs half the price of the Mic 2, offering an attractive solution for budget-conscious users. But is the lower price a deal-breaker compared to the Mic 2?

DJI Mic Mini First Impressions
First impressions of the Mic Mini are positive – the build quality feels solid and up to DJI’s usual standards. The charging case feels sturdy, well-designed and easy to use. Opening the case lights up LED lights to indicate that the microphones and receiver are activated and ready to connect. The microphone’s transmitters are significantly smaller than those of the Mic 2 and its competitors. While similar microphones are often praised for their quality and price, their bulky design can be inconvenient for some users. However, that’s not an issue with the Mic Mini – while it’s not as discreet as a lavalier microphone, it’s impressively compact considering it combines a microphone and transmitter with a built-in battery. Each microphone has a magnetic clip that allows you to attach it to clothing in two ways: with the built-in clip or magnetically, placing the magnet inside the garment and the microphone on the outside. DJI also offers a neck pendant-style mount as an alternative, providing even more flexibility.

Battery Life and Charging
✓ Battery Life: Each microphone lasts up to 11.5 hours on a single charge, and the charging case extends the usage time to 48 hours.
✓ Quick Charge: A five-minute charge provides approximately 1 hour of use. One advantage of the charging case over the Mic 2 is that the microphones can be stored with the windshield filters still attached. With the Mic 2, these had to be removed to be stored in the case, which could sometimes be inconvenient.

Noise Reduction
Like the Mic 2, the Mic Mini also features noise reduction, but it takes it a step further, offering two levels:
✓ Basic: Filters out low-level background noise and room echo.
✓ Strong: Eliminates loud background noises, such as traffic sounds.
When connected directly to a smartphone or camera, the noise reduction defaults to “Strong” and cannot be adjusted to a lower setting. However, if you’re using a DJI camera, you can change the noise reduction level. To toggle noise reduction, simply press the power button and a dedicated indicator light will show when it’s active. In use, the noise reduction works well, although the “Strong” setting can slightly affect voice quality.

Connectivity and Reliability
Pairing the Mic Mini is very quick and easy. Simply press the pairing button and select the pairing mode on your device. DJI claims a signal range of up to 400 meters in ideal conditions, although real-world factors may reduce this range. If you’re using a DJI Pocket 3, Action 4, or Action 5 camera, no additional receiver is required. The device will automatically connect to the camera after initial pairing.

DJI Mic Mini vs. DJI Mic 2

  1. More compact design: DJI Mic Mini is small and ultra-light, with the transmitter weighing only 10g. Compared to DJI Mic 2, it offers a lighter and more discreet wearing experience. It supports both magnetic and clip-on wearing styles, ensuring that it does not strain your collar or roll outward, making it suitable for a variety of wearing needs.
  2. Longer Runtime: The transmitter and receiver have a maximum run time of 11.5 and 10.5 hours, respectively. A fully charged case provides approximately 3.6 full charges for a total of 48 hours of extended use. This makes the DJI Mic Mini ideal for long trips, interviews, and other intensive use scenarios.
  3. The DJI Mic Mini offers two levels of noise cancellation to suit different environments. The Basic level is perfect for quiet indoor settings, reducing fan, air conditioning, and reverb noise while maintaining voice clarity. The Strong level is excellent in noisy environments, significantly reducing ambient noise for clearer vocals.
  4. Longer Transmission Range: Audio can be transmitted up to 400 meters,[2] and with the DJI Mic Mini’s powerful anti-interference capabilities, your recording remains stable and high-quality even in busy outdoor environments, such as a busy street or a crowded event.

If you’re a budding content creator with high needs for battery life, portability, and high-quality audio recording, the DJI Mic Mini is the most cost-effective and reliable choice in the DJI Mic series.
