DJI RS4 vs RS3

DJI RS4 vs RS3

The latest handheld stabilizer that shows why DJI is the market leader

Stabilizers can often be cumbersome to use—they’re time-consuming and uncomfortable to set up—so many videographers try to avoid them. However, DJI has taken these concerns into account and the RS4 is the next step in making using the stabilizer easier and more convenient.

The RS4 offers several significant improvements over its predecessor, the Ronin RS 3:

  • Teflon coating on stabilizer arms
  • The micro-adjust button on the camera mount makes balancing and adjustment much easier
  • Teflon surfaces help to make small shifts in axle attachment points without too much effort and pressure, preventing excessive movement
  • The large locking clamps in the hand make balancing faster and easier, so you can balance the camera stabilizer very quickly.

Balance
In terms of balance, the RS4 has a longer tilt axis than its predecessor, allowing you to attach more accessories to the camera without balance issues. The boom is 8.5mm longer than the RS 3, which is enough to add microphones on top of the camera and/or filters in front of the lens. The Ronin RS 4 can hold up to 3kg, which is as camera-resistant as the RS 3, but the new mount allows you to consider placing it in different locations around the camera’s center of gravity.

Creating vertical videos
Simplifying the creation of vertical videos is also a big innovation. If you had to set the Portrait mode in the RS 3 PTF settings, then in the RS 4 it is enough to rotate the camera mounting plate. The camera mount has two connection points – one on the top and one on the bottom – and a quick release button. Simply release the plate, flip it over and secure with the lower end to keep the camera upright. It’s quick and easy, the camera doesn’t require balancing, and all tracking modes and joystick capabilities are still available.

Stabilization
The RS4 also introduces a fourth-generation stabilization algorithm that improves stabilization in both horizontal and vertical modes, even when the situation is moving, such as running. If you choose the RS4 Combo, you’ll also get the Focus Pro Motor in the box, which is 30% faster than the previous model. This motor allows you to adjust the rotation speed, torque and direction of the zoom ring and focus rings in the menu.

Management
As before, the stabilizer controls and dials can be used to control certain elements of compatible cameras, including stopping and starting recording, taking pictures and setting exposure. These functions are available via Bluetooth or USB connection.
