Spring is here – and the drone season is back!

Is Your Drone Ready for Spring?

Three Important Things to Check Before Flying. Spring is the favorite season for drone enthusiasts – the days are getting longer, nature is waking up, and flying conditions are becoming more stable. But before you take your drone to the skies for the first time after winter, it’s worth going through a few simple but very important checks. This way, you’ll avoid unpleasant surprises and ensure a safe flying experience.

1.Check the Battery Condition
If your drone has been sitting unused for a long time, battery health becomes especially important.
 Is the battery charging properly?
 Does the battery last as long as it used to, or is it draining faster?
 Is the battery physically swollen, cracked, or getting hot?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions, the battery should be replaced – a swollen battery can be a fire hazard and is definitely not safe to fly with.
Tip: Don’t charge your battery from 0 to 100% right before takeoff – it’s best to store it at around 60–80% if you’re not planning to fly immediately.

2.Inspect the Propellers
Propellers can get dusty, bent, or develop micro-cracks over the winter.
Before your first flight:
 Check that the propellers are not cracked or bent
 Make sure the mounting clips work properly and lock securely
 Clean or replace them if needed – propellers are inexpensive, but crucial for flight safety
Bonus: It’s always a good idea to carry spare propellers with you!

3.Update the Software
There’s nothing worse than being in a beautiful spot and realizing your drone or app needs an update.
 Check for updates in the DJI Fly app (or your respective app)
 Make sure the drone firmware is up to date
 Also check the controller software and clear the memory card if needed
Software updates aren’t just about new features – they also improve safety and fix bugs.
Every flight starts on the ground – and spring is the perfect time to give your drone a proper “health check.” If you want your drone to serve you well all season, start responsibly.
