Insta360 X5 – A New Level in the World of 360° Cameras
Insta360 has launched its new flagship: the Insta360 X5. Compared to its predecessor, the X4, the new model offers significantly better image quality and audio, taking the creation of 360° videos and photos to an even higher level.
The Insta360 X4 was already a very strong product whose success could have lasted for years. However, with the X5, Insta360 has introduced small but important improvements, resulting in a camera that feels even more complete and professional. Externally, the X5 and X4 look quite similar – their dimensions, weight, and shape are almost identical. A few design details and, of course, the new model name on the front reveal that this is indeed the next-generation version.
It’s great to see that Insta360 hasn’t changed a winning formula but has focused precisely on the areas where there was room for improvement.
The most significant upgrade is the camera’s new 1/1.28-inch sensors, which are 144% larger than those in the X4. A larger sensor means considerably better light capture, more detailed images, and better performance in challenging lighting conditions, such as low light. Working alongside the sensors are three powerful image processing chips that help enhance image quality, reduce noise, and improve sharpness.
Additionally, the X5 has received a very important practical enhancement:
👉 The lenses are now more scratch-resistant and replaceable if needed. If a lens does get damaged, there’s no need for an expensive repair – the damaged lens can simply be swapped out, saving both time and money.
Early reviews and tests suggest that the X5 delivers highly detailed and vibrant images, extended dynamic range, and better low-light performance. Videos recorded in 5.7K 60fps HDR mode or 8K 30fps non-HDR mode look very sharp and lively. The files are ready to be shared on social media with minimal or no post-processing.
Significant technical improvements have also been made:
👉 The stitch line between the two lenses is nearly invisible, lens reflections have been reduced, and Insta360’s famous invisible selfie stick continues to remain professionally hidden.
In terms of audio quality, the Insta360 X5 has been upgraded with a new built-in stainless steel windscreen and a software-based “Voice Enhancement” mode, which improve the sound quality of vlogs and outdoor recordings. Based on early tests, wind noise is still audible in windy conditions but is not overly distracting.
Some user experiences have highlighted a few practical observations: when recording in 8K mode, the battery drains faster, and processing while connected to a smartphone (such as an iPhone 13) can put noticeable strain on the device. Considering the intense processing and large file sizes, this is to be expected, but it’s worth keeping in mind.
